1. Arise Awake and Stop not till the Goal is Reached
2. Everything in the universe is struggling to complete a
circle, to return to its source, to return to its only real Source, the Self.
3. You have to grow from the inside out. None can teach you,
none can make you spiritual. There is no other teacher but your own soul.
4. We are what our thoughts have made us; so take care about
what you think. Words are secondary. Thoughts live; they travel far.
5. You cannot believe in God until you believe in yourself.
6. The world is the great gymnasium where we come to make
ourselves strong.
7. All the powers in the universe are already ours. It is we who
have put our hands before our eyes and cry that it is dark.
8. Where can we go to find God if we cannot see Him in our own
hearts and in every living being.
9. Condemn none: if you can stretch out a helping hand, do so.
If you cannot, fold your hands, bless your brothers, and let them go their own
way.
10. When an idea exclusively occupies the mind, it is
transformed into an actual physical or mental state.
11. Truth can be stated in a thousand different ways, yet each
one can be true.
12. We are to take care of ourselves-that much we can do-and
give up attending to others for a time.
13. Let us perfect the means; the end will take care of itself.
For the world can be good and pure , only if our lives are good and pure.
14. It is an effect, and we are the means. Therefore, let us
purify ourselves. Let us make ourselves perfect.
15. Believe, therefore, in yourselves, and if you want material
wealth, work it out; it will come to you. If you want to be intellectual, work
it out on the intellectual plane, and intellectual giants you shall be. And if
you want to attain to freedom, work it out on the spiritual plane, and free you
shall be.
16. Isolation of the soul from all objects, mental and physical,
is the goal; when that is attained, the soul will find that it was alone all
the time, and it required no one to make it happy. As long as we require
someone else to make us happy, we are slaves
17. Always keep your mind joyful; if melancholy thoughts come,
kick them out
18. We only get what we deserve. It is a lie when we say the
world is bad and we are good. It can never be so. It is a terrible lie we tell
ourselves
19. This is the first lesson to learn: be determined not to
curse anything outside, not to lay the blame up on anyone outside, but be a
man, stand up, lay the blame on yourself. You will find that is always true.
Get hold of yourself
20. Spiritual knowledge is the only thing that can destroy our
miseries forever; and other knowledge satisfies wants only for a time
21. We shall all die! Bear this in mind always, and then the
spirit within will wake up.
22. Jealousy is a monster, pride is a demon.
23. My nature is to love Him, and therefore I love. I do not
pray for anything; I do not ask for anything. Let Him place me wherever He
likes. I must love Him for love's sake. I cannot trade in love.
24. It may be that I shall find it good to get outside my body,
to cast it off like a worn out garment. But I shall not cease to work. I shall
inspire men everywhere until the whole world shall know that it is one with
God.
25. Whenever you think of yourself, you are bound to feel
restless.
26. Unselfishness is God
27. It is the eternal love, unruffled equanimity under all
circumstances, and perfect freedom from jealousy or animosity that will tell.
That will tell, nothing else.
28. Our best work is done, our greatest influence is exerted,
when we are without thought of self. All great geniuses know this. Let us open
ourselves to the one Divine Actor, and let Him act, and do nothing ourselves.
29. Are you unselfish? That is the question. If you are, you
will be perfect without reading a single religious book, without going in to a
single church or temple.
30. Pure love has no motive. It has nothing to gain
31. Give as the rose gives perfume, because it is its own
nature, utterly unconscious of giving
32. At the present time there are men who give up the world to
help their own salvation. Throw away everything, even your own salvation, and
go help others.
33. God is in every man, whether man knows it or not; your
loving devotion is bound to call up the divinity in him.
34. It is better to wear out than to rust out-especially for the
sake of at least doing good to others.
35. The power is with the silent ones, who only live and love
and withdraw their personality. They never say “me” and “mine”; they are only
blessed in being instruments.
36. When you help a poor man, do not feel the least pride. That
is worship for you, and not the cause of pride.
37. Be perfectly resigned, perfectly unconcerned; then alone can
you do any true work. No eyes can see the real forces, we can only see the
results. Put out self, lose it, forget it; just let God work, it is His
business. We have nothing to do but stand aside and let God work. The more we
go away, the more God comes in. Get rid of the little “I”, and let only the
great “I” live.
38. All roads lead to God.
39. Wherever you are, that is a point from which you can start
to the center.
